The minister received the model of a train, as well as both hits and kudos from Nigerians.
Nigerians expressed mixed reactions. While some admired progressive technologies Nigeria is about to receive, others noted they would be rather useless:
“Please just take a look at what Amaechi is holding, that’s a real electric train and not that locomotive thing the past government brought; even we in Abuja have not seen that train yet,” Samuel Bobby wrote from the capital of Nigeria.
“Haha, you dey celebrate toy, and you no celebrate moving locomotive. OK, where 24/7 light to power it?” Obi Chimezie Okoronkwo-Nnadiekwe wondered.
Minister Amaechi has his own well-wishers:
“The best performing minister,” Francis Obi Ufomadu said.
“May Almighty Allah give you the ability,” Sheriff Abubakar Sheriff wrote on Facebook upon seeing the photos.
However, many Nigerians fear that multi-billion projects create good environment for another round of looting:
“Another chance for Amaechi to loot and recuperate the Rivers state’s money he spent on PMB’s election? Amaechi is a smooth criminal. He is very good in looting public funds,” Emmanuel Osamwonyi wrote from Canada.
It will be recalled that Minister Amaechi was a part of President Buhari’s delegation that went to China on official visit earlier this April.
According to the presidency, the five-day official visit to China, April 11-15, yielded about $6 billion investment for Nigeria.
