Adam Johnson is refusing to eat prison food.. for one disgusting reason

Adam Johnson has lost half a stone since he was sentenced to six years behind bars last month.
This is according to The Sun, who understand the former Sunderland and England footballer is snubbing prison food because he’s worried inmates who work in the canteen of HMP Armley are spitting in it.


As a result, Johnson is subsequently surviving on a diet of cereal, tins of tuna and Pot Noodles - three meals he is able to prepare in his cell.

“It is no secret that inmates spit in food they know is going to sex offenders,” a source was quoted as telling the Daily Star. "It is hardly great food to start with but having to worry whether someone has spat in it would put someone off still further.

"Johnson has lost quite a bit of weight because he’s not eating much.”

It was revealed on Tuesday that Johnson, 28, has officially lodged an appeal against his six-year jail sentence.

This was confirmed by his sister, Faye, who has been providing updates on the controversial ‘Adam Johnson’s Appeal Fight’ Facebook page.

“*Update* Adam’s appeal against his sentence has now been lodged!” she wrote on Tuesday. “Thanks everyone for your support it means a lot! X”

It was also revealed by The Sun earlier this week that Johnson is set to avoid being sent to a tough Category A prison and will instead move to a Category B or C jail closer to his home.

HMP Holme House, a prison with its own all-weather football pitch, is now being touted as Johnson’s next destination once he leaves his current location in Leeds.

A source told The Sun that Johnson is not receiving “special treatment” due to his celebrity status, but admitted: “People will wonder whether he should be kept in a much tougher prison given the nature of his offence.”

By moving to Holme House in County Durham, Johnson will be able to see his young daughter on a more regular basis, as well as his sister, father and former partner.

One of Johnson’s friends recently revealed that the only way the disgraced winger will survive prison life is if he can see his 14-month-old daughter.

“Adam had begged Stacey before he even went inside that he wants to see Ayla,” Johnson’s pal told The Sun. “Now he has called her and said he needs a visit and to see his daughter because of the grimness of prison life.

“He told her it’s the only way he’ll be able to survive the sentence and will give him hope during his appeal.

“He’s a bit in despair and needs something to look forward to and focus on.”
