Governor Wike leads arrest of 15 mechanics

As a way of fighting the recent "black soot" pollution that has hit Rivers State, Gov. Nyesom Wike led the arrest of 15 mechanics, burning used tyres with condemned engine oil.

The Governor, who was on his way back from Oyinbo after attending the funeral service of Late Sir Precious Oforji, ran into mechanics engaged in mass illegal burning of tyres and condemned engine oil on Aba Road around the Oyigbo axis.

Nigeria students to south Africans: Vacate from Nigeria before 48 hrs

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has given 48 hours ultimatum to all South African companies in Nigeria to relocate over the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.

DSS arrest Chocolate City boss Audu Maikori over Southern Kaduna killings tweet

Audu Maikori, CEO of Chocolate City Entertainment, has been arrested by the police over his tweets about a fatal attack on his relatives in Southern Kaduna that turned out to be false.

Syrian asylum seeker jailed for life in Sweden after footage emerged of him taking part in a 2012 execution

Nemesis caught up with a Syrian refugee after a Swedish court on Thursday sentenced him to life imprisonment for participation in the 2012 mass execution of seven government troops in Syria.

The Stockholm District Court ruled that 46-year-old refugee Haisam Omar Sakhanh joined the armed group Suleiman Company in early May 2012, and shot a person dead with an assault rifle.

Pigeon caught smuggling a mobile phone into a Brazilian prison (photos)

Guards at a Brazilian prison caught a pigeon with a mobile phone attached to its body.
Officials said the bird was trying to deliver the phone to prisoners.

The guards intervened when they spotted an inmate trying to catch the pigeon.When they inspected more closely, one guard found a small pouch that contained a phone and battery,Daily Mail reports.

The incident occurred at the Franco da Rocha prison, in in the state of Sao Paulo.
It is unclear who used the bird to try and smuggle the device in.

Pakistani court bans Valentine's Day

A judge in Pakistan has ruled on Valentine's Day,putting a ban on celebrating the Christian holiday Monday. A city-wide blackout on all V-Day promotions was also enforced.

Court petitioner, Abdul Waheed had said that it violated Islamic teachings.He said that instead of love, it promoted “immorality, nudity and indecency,” according to newspaper Dawn.

The Islamabad court agreed, prohibiting any official or public events celebrating Valentine’s Day in addition to its media ban.

Last year Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain told his countrymen to stick to their studies and avoid indulging in a date that had “no connection” to their culture.

The agency believes the properties were acquired by father and son with stolen public funds.

Newspaper mistakes Alec Baldwin for Donald Trump

An international newspaper was forced to apologize after it accidentally ran a picture of Alec Baldwin dressed as Donald Trump, rather than the US President himself.

Dominican newspaper El Nacional mistakenly used a photo of Baldwin from Saturday Night Live,next to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The paper wrote.

    The photo "was placed as if it were the one of Trump,""El Nacional apologises to the readers and to all those who felt affected by the publication."

EFCC explains what they do with recovered stolen funds

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has clarified Nigerians on what they do with recovered stolen funds.

According to the EFCC,

    " we've received way too many questions regarding the destination of recovered funds.Recovered monies are returned to the rightful owners. It could be an individual, organisation or the state. In the case of the State, the monies are paid into the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation.

A Zimbabwean woman who suffered a number of miscarriages early in her marriage has shocked the Christian world after offering her daughter as tithe to her church leader.

CBN, commercial banks to grant soft loan to corps members

The National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), has concluded plans to partner the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other commercial banks to provide soft loans to corps members across the country.

The Sokoto State Coordinator of the scheme, Alhaji Musa Abubakar, disclosed this on Saturday at the NYSC cultural carnival and exhibition of wares produced by the corps members under the 2016, batch ”B” stream.

The Kogi State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mrs Rosemary Ojochenemi Osikoya, yesterday, disclosed that her ministry's clampdown on all stray animals has started yielding positive results.

Osikoya stated this while confirming the arrests of four goats, four sheep and two kids, at the premises of the new State secretariat in Lokoja.

24-year-old Ukraine-trained medical doctor dies shortly after returning to Nigeria (Photos)

Tears flowed freely on Monday, February 6, 2017 in Warri, Delta state at the burial of a fresh 24 year old Nigerian medical doctor, Dr. Nancy Oghenetega Appih.

Nancy graduated on June 24, 2016 from Ivana-Frankivsk National Medical University in Ukraine.

Dr. Nancy returned to the country immediately after her graduation and completing all necessary requirements for her certificate.

But she died on January 31, 2017, after a brief illness, and was buried on Monday 6th February.

Qatar Airways plane tyre explodes at Lagos airport during takeoff

The tyre of a Boeing 767 aircraft belonging to Qatar Airways exploded while attempting to take off at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Lagos.
